Glass mosaics

Hi, I am Yvette.

I am a stained glass mosaic artist working from a small studio based in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Originally from South Africa, I trained in Botany and Education before working in mosaics for the last 10 years.

I started out in traditional mosaic, but now work primarily with stained glass and glass inclusions.

Most of the pieces I make are for the garden. These are made by gluing individually cut pieces of glass to a transparent acrylic base. After the glue has dried the finished piece is grouted and cleaned like a traditional mosaic. The mosaics are then prepared for hanging or mounted on a metal support pole to stake in the garden. It is all the fun of mosaic but with the magic of a stained glass window. These mosaics are designed to interact with the environment, reflecting and refracting light so that they change throughout the day.

Magic of light

There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when the sun shines through all the glass pieces you have carefully arranged, and the whole mosaic just comes to life. It takes my breath away every time.

The magic of light through glass can also be transferred indoors, and I have made a number of glass on glass mosaic pieces in frames and on stands to hang or sit in windows. For me it is all about colour, and if I can brighten up a dull day with a bit of colourful glass, my work is done.

Over the last few months I have been working on a number of mosaics, mainly of birds, using opaque glass. I am enjoying the process of blending glass tremendously, so watch this space…

I have exhibited widely around Gloucestershire, and mosaicked two large 5ft hares for the Cirencester and Cotswold Hare festivals in 2014 and 2017.

Apart from being a member of the Cotswold Craftsmen,I am  also a member of British Association of Modern Mosaic.

I am happy to undertake commissions, so please feel free to get in touch.
